BN142 Valentijn class KNRM Donateur

The VALENTIJN is justifiably the “pride” of HABBEKÉ SHIPYARD’s building program. Seventeen vessels have been completed and delivered to the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution KNRM http://www.knrm.nl/ and a for the Caister Lifeboat  http://www.caisterlifeboat.org.uk/.  The VALENTIJN can rescue up to 50 people and has shown her worth and ability in the dangerous seas around The Netherlands.

Originally the idea to use a Johannes Frederik classs as beach launch lifeboat.  However, these were found to be large and heavy. Therefore, it was built in 1990 and the Valentijn was stationed in Noordwijk aan Zee. The Valentijn is a beach lifeboat and launched with a special boatcar from the beach. Two years after completion of the Valentijn, two boats of this type were delivered. (Beursplein5 and Adriaan Hendrik) As KNRM was satisfied with this type of ship, in the eighth year after that, there were eight of these boats to built, with slight improvements from the experience of the existing boats. Moreover, this was not just a beach lifeboat, the Valentijns also proved to be great boats for the IJssellake and the Wadden Sea.

The boats of the “old” Valentijn class feature 2 x 430-hp Volvo Penta engines. These motors, in combination with water-jet-propulsion give the boat a speed of 34 knots. The Valentine are semi-self-righting, which means that the crew must activate an air pocket to get up again

These vessels are built according to the standards and rules of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS X A1 HSC.AMS).
